(Sr.) Development Specialist Ambient
The (Sr.) Development Specialist Ambient works on innovation and renovation projects for Private Label. Working for Private Label customers is exciting, fast and pragmatic and requires agility in execution. With innovation for private label you can make impact as it drives immediate scale!
Projects have a high level of complexity e.g. with capex, multidisciplinary, with high-level stakeholders, involving new technology or processes, outsourcing, with substantial impact on product properties in an international setting.
The senior development specialist works proactively and independently on key projects, in cases leading other R&D colleagues in the project, and taking on the role of a technical lead and key contact for Private Label customers.
What we ask
- MSc. or PhD, food physics/chemistry, sensory science, food processing, engineering or any other relevant field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience (product development ambient dairy) in an R&D environment.
- Extended Dairy knowledge in e.g. ambient dairy drinks, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, milk powders or product category based on similar technology.
- Recipe development from sensory, physical-chemical and nutritional perspective.
- Analytical, quality and result driven.

Vacancy description
Drive New Product Development and Value Engineering processes:
- Use practical and theoretical expertise (ingredients, recipes, processes, product-pack relations, product validations, analyzing methods, project management) in at least 1 of the following fields: ambient dairy drinks, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, milk powders or product category based on similar technology.
- Coaches other product developers and/or students in projects.
- Improves existing and defines new procedures / ways-of-working.
Vision development and strategy input:
- Act as an expert in at least one of the above product categories, building out your own expertise and defining knowledge gaps
- Translate new research and technology into application.
- Show curiosity and be open to exploring new insights from multiple sources and angles (including outside of FrieslandCampina).
Interactions and relation management:
- Be the key contact for Private Label internal stakeholders and for key customers.
- Build and maintain a complete internal and external relation network e.g. other R&D teams, other disciplines (QA, SC, MKT, procurement…), suppliers, outsourcing partners.
- Represent R&D from all aspects within complex projects and discussions.
- Actively address issues, communicated impact & recommends solutions taking into account business priority and potential.

You will be part of the Europe, Retail & Americas development team of about 40 R&D colleagues in the Innovation Centre of Wageningen. Within this larger team you work in a team of 12 Development Specialists, who mainly work on cheese. This team is working in close cooperation with BG Retail & Americas, BG Europe, BG MEPA and Supply Chain.
