Dairy Extension Officer

The purpose of this role is to provide expertise to support Small Holder Dairy Farmers and Fulani Milk Producers on improved dairy practices, including feeding, milking hygiene, and herd management techniques in line with the company’s operational plans and strategy to ensure efficiency and growth of raw milk production.

Vacancy description

This role is responsible for the following:

  1. Drives a progressive safety and Quality culture. Drive safely and report all safety and quality related incident(s)
  2. Organise monthly training sessions for Fulani and smallholder farmers on improved dairy practices, including feeding, milking hygiene, and herd management techniques.
  3. Promote regular animal health checks, vaccinations, and deworming to reduce disease outbreaks and improve cow productivity.
  4. Encourage the adoption of improved cow breeds or crossbreeding methods to increase milk yield and strengthen herd genetics.
  5. Support farmers in developing proper feed and fodder plans, using locally available and sustainable feed resources.
  6. Train farmers on clean milking techniques and safe milk handling to improve milk quality and reduce post-milking contamination.
  7. Track and increase average milk yield per cow, targeting at least a 20–30% improvement over baseline figures within 12 months.
  8. Engage with FMP and smallholder cooperatives to promote group learning, bulk milk collection, and collective problem-solving.
  9. Visit farmer groups regularly(minimum twice a month per group) to provide one-on-one support and gather feedback on challenges.
  10. Assist in setting up basic animal health recordsfor farmers to monitor treatments, calving, and production cycles.
  11. Create linkages with veterinary officers and animal health services, ensuring farmers have access to timely treatment and expert care.
  12. Follow up with BMGF activities, report on weekly basis the achievement of BMGF deliverables in your operational areas: Training, Animal health, AI, feed & fodders, women empowerment etc
