Packaging Sustainability Expert

You'll join our global R&D Packaging Team in Wageningen, where innovation meets purpose.

Being successful in this role means faster and better project execution by the teams, strengthening our packaging portfolio towards a sustainable future. Next to driving and building the data based knowledge on packaging sustainability, you will also execute packaging sustainability related projects.

In short, you will:

  • Analyze packaging data to identify sustainability improvement opportunities and reporting it to the organization.
  • Translate upcoming packaging legislation, provided by regulatory affairs, into clear implications for our packaging portfolio.
  • Explore, build and deliver essential future packaging material expertise.
  • Collaborate closely with external partners to ensure close connection from FrieslandCampina to developments in the market, enabling to define the best route towards the future.
  • Deliver packaging sustainability related projects by leading or participating as the expert.

 

Packaging Sustainability Expert

What we ask

  • Academic degree in a relevant technological education/background (environmental science, material science, industrial design or engineering).
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with environmental data, data management systems and related tools.  
  • Experience in packaging development and/or good knowledge of packaging technologies and materials.
  • A minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience in the area of packaging sustainability.
  • Continuous improvement and learning mindset - as the sustainability landscape in packaging evolves continuously.
  • Good communication skills – able to explain complex sustainability topics clearlyA collaborative mindset and experience working in cross-functional teams.

Vacancy description

As a Packaging Sustainability Expert, you will play a key role in driving our packaging sustainability strategy forward. 

To do this, the starting point is to analyze our packaging portfolio data, assess environmental impacts (for instance on carbon footprint or designed for recycling) and translate these findings  into actionable projects.

Next to that, you will deep dive into the world of packaging recycling and its future materials, to be able to drive our strategy forward. For instance by exploring the packaging waste material streams and its technologies or finding out the details behind new potential materials.

We work on fact-based transformation with science, data and knowledge, which is translated into innovative actions and new business models.

The Packaging department is an international community with 40+ colleagues from 12 different countries and we are based in Wageningen (the Netherlands), Singapore and multiple countries in Europe and Asia. Indeed, we see a mix of personalities and cultures as the perfect breeding ground for innovations. Our team members hold at least a Bachelor’s degree, gained experience with working in different cultures and are above average interested in technology. They cooperate to achieve our ambitious targets.
