Research Engineer - Membrane Process Technology
FrieslandCampina has a strong position in dairy processing with the use of membrane systems. In the Global Process Technology team within R&D, we bring membrane technology from theory to practice. To strengthen our separation technology cluster, we are looking for a person who helps us in optimizing existing processes and developing innovations for our next generation production processes. Wat we vragen
- You have a master’s degree in (Bio-)Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, Food Technology or equivalent study direction.
- You have a PhD and at least 3 years of experience in a relevant field, such as membrane technology, ion exchange, separation technology, or transport phenomena, or an equivalent thinking level with at least 8 years of experience.
- Know-how of interfacial science and material-product interactions (e.g., the interactions between membranes or resins and products) is a pre.
- You are interested in deeply understanding separation phenomena, on a micro-scale (interactions between products and membranes) as well as on a macro-scale (translating research concepts into process designs). You are analytically strong, a critical thinker, and you don’t mind challenging the general perception when new insights arise. You are honest and open. You share your knowledge and the results of your work with colleagues and relevant stakeholders.
- Good oral and written skills in English. Willingness to learn Dutch.

As a Research Engineer – Membrane Process Technology, you work on the development of the next generation of separation processes, in particular membrane filtration processes, the optimization of our current membrane units, and on tailoring membrane processes for the development of new products. You set up and coordinate experiments on laboratory or pilot-plant scale in Wageningen, or design plant trials to be executed in one of our factories in the Netherlands directly. You analyze results, perform statistical analyses where required, and disseminate the results through presentations, reports and in dialogue with engineers. For small projects, you take the lead in the organization and communication with the internal client and stakeholders.
You contribute to setting up and maintaining good contact with external partners such as academic partners and suppliers. Together with your colleagues, you help us with executing our strategies in sustainability and digitalization, thereby ensuring that we are leading with technology. As process development engineer, you will work together with colleagues with diverse backgrounds from, amongst others, the other Process Technology clusters, Product Development Teams and Supply Chain. You report to the Cluster Manager Separation and Purification Technology.

The cluster membrane separation and purification technology is part of the department of Global Process Technology, located in Wageningen. In this department, research and development is performed on separation technologies such as membrane technology and ion exchange, drying, powder technologies, preservation, sustainability, energy management and digital modeling.
