Sharifah’s bold career pivot in becoming people champion

Coming from Sabah and has been with FrieslandCampina Malaysia for eight years, Sharifah started off in IT, helping out with HR admin tasks, but later moved fully into HR. Her journey didn’t follow the usual path but this switch gave her the chance to learn a lot and get comfortable working with different teams and tasks.

Currently, she serves as a Retained Officer in the People Service & Solutions (PS&S) team at FrieslandCampina Shared Service Asia, the newly established HR shared services center supporting the region. Her main job is handling payroll, but she also takes care of other HR and operational stuff. It’s a busy role where she often has to juggle multiple urgent tasks and make sure everything gets done on time. What she really enjoys is working with people from different countries and constantly picking up new skills along the way.

When the world stood still, she kept things moving

One of Sharifah’s biggest accomplishments was during the COVID-19 lockdown when she managed the hiring and relocating of employees to Malaysia. It was a tough time with lots of rules and changes, but she coordinated everything from start to finish and made sure the employees were well-supported. Thanks to her efforts, the company kept running smoothly even during such a tricky period.

Her journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing, and she feels there’s room for better support in personal growth, especially with recent company changes. But she’s learned a lot by stepping up, taking initiative, and figuring things out on her own. That’s helped her become more confident and adaptable.

If Sharifah had to pick a nature that fits her best, it would be resilience. Handling lots of tasks at once and meeting deadlines takes persistence and dependability; traits she shows every day. She also values always learning new things and believes growth comes from overcoming challenges and helping others along the way.

Her biggest motivation? Her kids. They push her to work hard, keep improving, and be a good role model both at home and at work.
