From logistics to IT: growing through curiosity and collaboration

Giuliano started at FrieslandCampina as a logistics operator in Aalter. From day one he felt welcome: his needs were taken into account, he received clear training and through short evaluations his knowledge level was assessed. With a background in graphic and digital media he already had an interest in IT, but his career began in logistics. Thanks to trust, good guidance and his curious attitude he got the opportunity to grow. Today he works as local user support in IT, a role in which he feels completely at home.

Working together with respect

In his role as local user support Giuliano comes into contact with almost everyone on the sites he is responsible for. He is the point of contact for IT questions about laptops, network and IT equipment and supports colleagues in solving issues. In doing so he works together with other teams across different locations and even worldwide. “We depend on each other to solve problems. Without respect for that, collaboration would never be successful,” says Giuliano.

 

Learning from new experiences

At FrieslandCampina Giuliano mainly learns by taking on new challenges. By stepping outside his familiar work environment and contributing to different initiatives, he develops not only professionally but also personally. During his time in logistics Giuliano had the opportunity to travel to Maasdam for a week to learn from each other’s ways of working. It was the first time he stayed alone in a hotel. This experience made him more independent and gave him the confidence to also travel alone in his private life from time to time.

Another example in which Giuliano learns through new experiences is the life cycle management project, where older laptops are replaced with new devices. Through this project he comes into contact with almost everyone who uses a device, which helps him get to know colleagues better and expand his network within the organization.

Growing through opportunities and curiosity

What characterizes Giuliano is his curiosity. He wants to understand how systems work and actively looks for solutions. This attitude helped him take steps internally: from logistics operator to first line responsible logistics and eventually to something completely different, namely IT. FrieslandCampina supported this growth with targeted training and projects aligned with his knowledge and development points.

Projects such as the LCM project, in which laptops are replaced, give him the opportunity to make an impact and get to know many colleagues better. “Every day is different, which makes my job varied, educational and very rewarding,” says Giuliano.
