Technology Lead - Protein Process Development
FrieslandCampina has a strong position in the processing of dairy proteins. To strengthen our process technology R&D team, we are looking for an experienced technology lead with a strong background in proteins. In this role, you will be responsible for driving innovation and excellence in dairy protein process development, including casein and whey proteins. Based on a strong foundation in the chemistry and physics of proteins, you use scientific insights to come up with novel ways to produce new protein products, or to improve our existing production processes. This role is based in our department of Global Process Technology at our Innovation Center in Wageningen.

- A master’s degree in Food Process Technology; or a background in (Bio-)Chemical Engineering or Process Technology with at least 10 years of experience in process development for protein processing; or a demonstratable equivalent level of education. Having a PhD degree is preferred.
- Experience in moving technological projects from the first proof-of-concept stage into a scalable, techno-economically viable solution. Experience in the execution of trials at pilot plant or plant scale is a must. Having a solid foundation in unit operations commonly used in protein processing is highly desired.
- Excellent communication skills for reporting, presenting, and communication with colleagues and external stakeholders. Excellent English communication skills required,
- A strong conceptual and analytical thinking level is required. You can prioritize and make decisions during process development and know when to choose for speed and when for rigor.

In this position, your tasks and responsibilities include:
- Act as technology lead for strategic innovation projects for our proteins business; you ensure the translation of New Product Development ideas into feasible and scalable processes, from the first proof of concept up to a documented process design.
- Within projects, you identify, analyze, and communicate on the technological complexity and risks. You consider diverse perspectives but are not afraid to prioritize and take decisions, taking an optimal balance between speed and rigor.
- You prepare process designs and mass balances and contribute to business cases. You coordinate pilot plant trials and ensure smooth execution.
- Together with your colleagues, you develop strategies for protein processing and take responsibility for improving our way of working on protein process development, through introducing new methods, tools, and equipment.
- Identify intellectual property opportunities in early stages of and during projects and manage risk assessments.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members.
- Collaborate strongly internally and maintain external partnerships as needed. For this, you are willing and able to travel to mainly national production locations for approximately 15% of the time.
