Innovation Portfolio & Project Manager

As Innovation Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) Manager, you support the delivery of the innovation portfolio by ensuring strategic alignment, financial target compliance, and high-quality execution of projects. You enable effective portfolio decision-making, safeguard project and portfolio governance, and support Marketing Directors and the Innovation Board in defining and delivering a coherent innovation roadmap.

  • Academic degree (Master’s level) in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • More than 10 years of relevant experience in project and portfolio management within complex organizations.
  • Proven experience with innovation portfolios, stage-gate processes, and project governance.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in portfolio analysis, business cases, and benefits tracking.
  • Hands-on experience with PPM tools and portfolio management systems.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills at tactical and strategic levels.
  • Ability to challenge, coach, and support project managers.
  • Structured, proactive, and quality-driven mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

The Innovation PPM Manager is responsible for the governance and continuous improvement of project and portfolio management within the innovation domain. The role ensures that the innovation portfolio is aligned with strategic priorities and financial targets (innovation portfolio value > €50 million GP) and that projects are executed according to agreed plans and standards.

You facilitate and influence segment portfolio owners in making portfolio choices to create a coherent innovation pipeline and enable effective resource allocation. You promote and safeguard the FrieslandCampina project and portfolio management way of working, including the project funnel and stage-gate process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Executing and promoting project and portfolio governance within the unit
  • Creating and continuously improving portfolio overviews to support portfolio board decision-making
  • Tracking portfolio data, interdependencies, and governance schedules
  • Providing insights into resource demand and allocation across the portfolio
  • Challenging and supporting project managers and principals on budgets, benefits, and realistic planning
  • Ensuring correct and consistent use of portfolio management tools (e.g. Principal Toolbox) and leading regular data update cycles
  • Supporting the Innovation Board in evaluating portfolio performance, benefits realization, and process effectiveness
  • Translating lessons learned into improved portfolio forecasting and value prediction
