Intern Product Development Expert
The department Product Development Dairy Drinks develops fresh dairy drinks for mainly the Dutch and German market but is also involved in troubleshooting for dairy drinks (mainly long life) in European and the South-east Asian market.
During this internship the main objectives are to gain practical experience in an R&D organization and to develop personal skills and competences. The activities will be focusing on the use of Plant based materials for the development of UHT drinks having similar properties (viscosity, mouthfeel, appearance, creaminess, taste etc.) as UHT milk. Besides that improving and understanding the physical stability of UHT milk with cereals for SE Asia is in scope.
The location is at the FrieslandCampina Innovation Center in Wageningen.

Final years of relevant MSc study, e.g. Food Technology

The internship activities will focus on the use of Plant based materials for the development of UHT drinks.
Important aspects you will work on are:
Reading literature of all work which has already been done on Plant based recipes with different types of plant materials and processes.
Discussing stability issues, effect of different recipes and processes, nutritional aspects, sensorial aspects of different plant based sources with internal and external experts.
Setting up lab trials and, if needed, assisting in pilot plant trials to test different recipe and processing directions.
Following the physical stability of the milks with Plant based materials during shelf-life (stored at different temperatures) and using/improving analytical methods (rheology, particle size measurements, microscopy etc.) to get some more insights in the structure of the product compared to UHT milk.

The product development team for Dairy Drinks is part of the Consumer Dairy R&D team and is located in Wageningen, where we are close connected to other R&D disciplines, like Research, Sensory, Packaging development and the pilot plant. We also work close together with our Marketing colleagues in Amersfoort, with colleagues in the factories in The Netherlands and Germany and for this project also with colleagues in our Innovation Center in Singapore.
